The Collared Peccary, or more commonly called the Javelina, lives in the Texas brush of the Central Grasslands.
A Javelina is a piglike animal with many of the same features as a pig. It has a large head with a long snout and stiff hair . Its hind foot has three toes rather than four.
A full grown Javelina stands close to two feet and weighs thirty-five to sixty pounds. It has poor eyesight but good hearing. Hunters say that you can smell a Javelina before you can see it, and if you've ever been close to one you'll know why.
The Javelina's diet consists of acorns, pecans, and fruits of the prickly plants. It gets much of its water from the prickly pears. The Javelina has a lifespan of ten years.
