Retaining Wall at Residence

This is a retaining wall. Usually they are used when the slope would be less than practical for the landscaping around a house or business. Sometimes hills are too high or too steep.

In the case of this old house, the grade is so steep it took three retaining walls (four layers) to get up to the top level.

While I'm not very fond of retaining walls, this one looked new and was kept fairly well, so it didn't look too bad.

This is something unusual. Its a residence with a gate that has a wheel attached. Strange.

Four Seasons of Texas

How they raise kids in Texas-----------

Miss Sally Edwards is a highly esteemed third grade teacher at
Jacksboro Elementary. In an effort to prepare her students for the
all-important TAKS test, she compiled an exam consisting of 20
questions, which she administered to her class last Tuesday. The
exam purposely covered a broad array of topics.

I call your attention to question # 11, which simply read:

LIST, IN ANY ORDER, THE FOUR SEASONS: 1. ________ 2. ________

3.________ 4. ________

Now, could you possibly imagine that 67% of the students gave the following answer?

1. DOVE SEASON 2. DEER SEASON 3. DUCK SEASON 4. TURKEY SEASON

Going Home

I had the opportunity the other day to return to the hometown where I grew up. Though I've gone back before, this was one of the first chances I've had to really spend some time there and look around the old neighborhoods. A lot has changed in 22 years down in Burleson, Texas.

This was my elementary school, Nola Dunn. Surprisingly, not too much has changed there. One big difference I can note is this aluminum carport cover where the students are picked up. Back in my day it wasn't there. If it was raining, you got wet. And if you misbehaved, Mrs. Brown would wear your butt out right there in front of God, friends, parents, and whoever else happened to be driving by. I spent countless hours waiting just outside this gate for whichever mother was in charge of the carpool that day. The room right there in the corner of the building was my first grade class. And where Mrs. Brown unleashed her fury on me more than once, haha.

This baseball backstop has grown over the years. When I first started school there, there wasn't one. If the catcher missed the ball, it rolled all the way to the fence. It was always good to never leave your equipment behind after practice, because your mother would tell you, "Ask Mrs. Brown if you can get it tomorrow." Which she always allowed us to do, but only after she wore our butts out.

This is Little Booger Creek. Yes, that's the real name of it, and yes, its usually bone dry. Occassionally after a strong rain it will flood and send a car or two off the bridge, but for the most part its as dry and hot as the desert. It would be more proper to call it the Little Booger Trail. Where this creek starts and stops I don't know. I used to know many years ago but unfortunately its slipped from my mind.

Jobs in Austin

I’ve wandered through Texas many times on trips across this vast state, and its not only a great place to visit, but also live and work. There’s a lot of opportunity in this beautiful part of the state. If you would like to relocate to Austin, or already live there and want to search jobs in Austin, visit today and find out what’s in store in the Lone Star State’s capital.

Petting Zoo Fence

This is a portable fence I spotted at a petting zoo in Burleson, Texas (USA).

Picture 1- Notice how the goats and pig roam freely around the pin. So calm and relaxed.

Picture 2- A herding dog approaches and reminds the goats who is in charge.

Picture 3- One of the goats snaps at the dog and pokes it with his horns. The dog retreats and growls, trying to regain control once again.

Insurance Rates

The price of insurance is going up, so its important that you do your research before you obligate yourself to paying more than you can afford. Not to mention you need to make sure you get the benefits you are wanting. The best way to save is to compare insurance rates from multiple companies, which will let you compare and get the best deal.

Wall with Tree

I spotted this wall in a nice, wooded neighborhood in the mid-cities. The house sits on a huge corner lot and has a winding driveway that connects to the houses on each side of it (you can see one of those houses in the picture).

The wall doesn't extend to a gate or anything, its just about 30 feet long and sits on the corner. I guess its only purpose was beautification of the lot. I didn't get a chance to look very closely (I was stopped in traffic, haha!), but I wonder if at one point or another there was a light on each of the pillars.

The thing that interested me most about this wall, though, was the tree that is nearly growing into the back side of it. Surely no one would build a wall this close to a tree, or plant a tree that would grow that large next to the wall. So I can only assume that the wall was there before the tree and the tree wasn't planted but grew there naturally. And the tree, with its HUGE size and height, looks like it has been there for years and years. So I wonder, how old is the house? How old is this wall?

Law Firm

If you are involved in an accident, you want to know that you’ll have the representation it requires to get the care and resolution you deserve. A great place is the law firm of Frank Jenkins. Whether it is from a vehicle accident, construction accident, or a slip and fall that has caused you an injury, this law firm will protect your rights and make sure the other side pays their obligation.
