Texas History

Texas was annexed into the United States in 1845, making it the 28th state in what was still a new country. In 1861 it seceded from the USA to join with the Confederate States of America. Texas longed to preserve it's culture and southern heritage, including slavery, and many battles were fought in the Lone Star State. Many of it's citizens today reconstruct these battles, and traveling east to Jefferson you'll see many ammunition storage facilities still standing.

Texas completed Civil War reconstruction in the 1870's and became one of the largest producers of cotton in the country. Then in the early 1900's oil was discovered and the ensuing oil boom caused the population to skyrocket as many came here looking to cash in. To this day, oil wells dot the landscape and provide jobs for thousands of people.

While leaping into the 21st century, Texas has somehow managed to keep it's country charm. It's a blend of large urban areas surrounded by far reaching farms and ranches.
