Cynthia Ann Parker

Cynthia Ann Parker was kidnapped from her home at Fort Parker in 1836. She was only nine years old when the Comanches took her.
She spent more than twenty-five years living with her Native American captors. She was happy in her new life and adjusted to their ways.
She married Chief Peta Nocona and had three children. Cynthia Ann was so content in the Comanche way of life that she did not want to return to Fort Parker. She instead wanted to continue living the life she had known for so long.
When she was thirty-four, the Texas Rangers raided her camp, killing her husband. The Rangers took her back to her family at Fort Parker. Cynthia Ann was very unhappy and tried several times to return to her Indian home before she died.
One of her three sons, Quanah Parker (pictured) became the last war chief of his tribe. He led the resistance to keep whites from settling on Comanche land. When he knew that his people could no longer fight, Quanah Parker helped the Indians to adjust to reservation life.
A lot of people say he learned a lot about the white's way of life from his mother, which helped him to quickly and successfully adapt. Quanah Parker was a deputy sheriff, a wealthy rancher, and an influential man in politics. Theodore Roosevelt considered him a close friend.

Circuit City- No More!
I made one major purchase at Circuit City and it was the worst retail experience of my life. I was so happy to see them close their doors forever. It was customer service like they gave me that must have been their standard, which eventually led to their doom.
But without this large electronics retailer, where can you go to find the electronics and other items you need? My wife and I shop at Buy.com, not only do they have all the electronics that you could get at that other place, but they have even more. And never have we had a negative experience when we purchase something from Buy.com.

From a distance the fence looks new, and for its age it was in great condition. But it was quite old, and unfortunately just covered with a recent paint job.

Bass Hall
Fort Worth has many places of culture, but none as grand as the Bass Performance Hall.
Bass Hall was built in downtown Fort Worth in 1998. The exterior has high golden angels overhead, blowing their trumpets, and catches the eye of anyone passing by. Inside are vaulted ceilings, a marble foyer, and curving staircases. The central dome has been painted to give an illusion of the sky.
The hall is home to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Fort Worth Opera. The mere existence of these two cultural icons baffles some visitors because their perception of this southern cowtown just doesn't include such things. Bass Hall also hosts many performers and musical theatre. It premiered with Phantom of the Opera.
The quality of sound is excellent. It is known worldwide for its acoustical magnificence. There are literally no bad seats and every visitor can enjoy the show.

Pala Duro Canyon

Sometimes called the Grand Canyon of Texas, Pala Duro Canyon is 120 miles long, 20 miles wide, and 800 feet deep. Formed by erosion, it is still getting deeper because of silt and sediment in the bottom. It's a great place to visit and a spectacle like you can't imagine, right here in the Lone Star State.
A park compliments Pala Duro Canyon, which opened July 4,1934. The work of the Civilian Conservation Corp, the park is host to many visitors each year, who come to see the sights.
From June until August the park hosts the play "Texas" in its 1742 seat Amphitheater. It was written by Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Green and has a cast of sixty actors, dancers, and singers. The musical begins shortly after dark, with a lone horseman riding on top of a steep cliff while carrying a Texas flag. There is thunder and lightening in the background. The lone rider gallops away, and the play begins.
There is a barbecue each night before the performance. Even on a hot Texas summer night, the temperature is pleasant for the meal and the play.

Nacogdoches, Texas

Folks that live in Nacogdoches claim that it is the oldest town in Texas. It would be hard to prove otherwise because many historians agree with them.
Spaniards recorded meeting and living with the Caddo people during 1541-1542. They were enroute to Mexico but some stayed. Father Margil built the mission Our Lady of the Guadalupe of Nacogdoches. In 1773 the mission was abandoned. All the settlers were ordered to move to San Antonio.
The first European settlement was in 1716, years later than the Spanish mission. Nacogdoches history has been recorded and preserved. Much of it at Old Stone Fort. It represents the work of Gil Ybarbo, who laid out the town which was a stone house and trading post.
The town was built in 1779 and served as a fort, government headquarters, and prison. During the attempts to establish a Republic, the town of Nacogdoches served as headquarters for Texas.
Today Nacogdoches is the home of Stephen F. Austin State University. It is a beautiful campus set in the piney woods. There is greenery , blooming flowers and tree lined walkways. Old Stone Fort is part of the campus as well as the Stephen F Austin Arboretum and Herb Garden. There are ten acres of native plants. The site of the first newspaper is also at SFASU. It was established during the fight of the Republic.
