Weatherford

Weatherford was established in 1855. It was named for Jefferson Weatherford, a state senator. It was made county seat in1856 even though it had only 8 families. In 1857 the Butterfield Stage came through and brought more people and commerce.

Weatherford is located 20 miles west of Fort Worth. Many say it is where the west really begins. The town leaders have tried to preserve its historical past. One of many places of interest is a Public Market that was built in 1932 as a WPA project. Today it is a public market that sells local produce.

Weatherford has many B&Bs, flea markets, antique shops, as well as historic sites. For fun there is rock climbing and hiking. The library honors Mary Martin who originated the role of Peter Pan.

Special events include a Rattlesnake show and hunting. There is a Parker Count Peach Festival in July.At Christmas the parade and Candlelight Tour.
