Hempstead, Texas was called Six-shooter Junction in the early days.
It was said to be so wild that train conductors would advise the passengers to prepare to meet their maker if they were getting off the train in Hempstead.
To all other passengers his sdvice was to hide under their seats. It was not until 1905 that Hempstead had its last big gunfight. Four men were shot down in the street.
