Twice a Ghost Town

Shafter, Texas was once the richest place in our country. Twice. More than 30 million ounces of silver was produced from the mines in Shafter.

But the strikes dwindled and it became deserted. Twice. There have been many economic boons and busts in Texas that made thriving towns into ghost towns but only Shafter became a ghost town twice in one century.
