Xbox games

Texas summers are hot, so much so that it’s nearly impossible to stay outdoors. You know it’s crazy when it’s too hot to swim.

So we try to do some indoor entertainment, such as go to the movies, skating, bowling, and shopping at the mall, where I’m always looking for great deals on the latest buy xbox games that are out.

But I usually end up buying online, so I can save money and get them shipped to my door.

Hempstead, Texas

Hempstead, Texas was called Six-shooter Junction in the early days.

It was said to be so wild that train conductors would advise the passengers to prepare to meet their maker if they were getting off the train in Hempstead.

To all other passengers his sdvice was to hide under their seats. It was not until 1905 that Hempstead had its last big gunfight. Four men were shot down in the street.

Twice a Ghost Town

Shafter, Texas was once the richest place in our country. Twice. More than 30 million ounces of silver was produced from the mines in Shafter.

But the strikes dwindled and it became deserted. Twice. There have been many economic boons and busts in Texas that made thriving towns into ghost towns but only Shafter became a ghost town twice in one century.

Train Gate?

Henry Sanborn's Flying Pan ranch near Amarillo required trains to stop at his wire fence.

A brakeman would get off the train and open the gate running across the tracks. After the train passed through the brakeman would climb down and close the gate.

We Thought You Was a TOAD

The Texas horny toad is not really a toad nor is it a frog. It is the Texas Horned Lizard which translates into "horned toad body".

They measure from 3-5 inches in length and have a broad, flat torso,a short tail and a pointed snout. Their color varies according to the soil, from light tan to brown.

On their heads are spikes that look like horns. They are used to dicourage enemies. Most horned frogs live west of Fort Worth in dry flat areas with little cover. They use rocks and cactus for shelter and blend in with the background which is their defense.

The body temperature of the horned frog is 105 degrees. They only live 3-4 years but many old west Texans believe that they can live for many years without food, water or air.

Emergency Road Service

There’s only one thing worse than a mechanical breakdown in your vehicle, and that is when your vehicle, particularly and RV, breaks down when you are traveling for vacation and far away from home and your local mechanic.

That is why it is important that you have emergency road service available, so you won’t be stranded and can get back on the road in no time.

Richmond, TX Bridge

Before the Civil War, early train travel posed a problem when crossing the Brazos River in Richmond, Texas.

There was a floating drawbridge at the low water crossing near Richmond. Trains stopped at the banks and asked passengers if they wanted to take their chances with the train or take the ferry and reboard across the river.

Most people chose the ferry because it was common knowledge that the train was often dumped into the river.
